WINSTON STUDENT SELECTED FOR STUDY ABROAD

The Winston R-VI School District is proud to announce that one of its students has been selected, out of a pool of national candidates, to attend a student exchange program this summer in Japan.  Delilah Gadd, a Junior at Winston High School, was selected  to attend the FCCLA/Kikkoman Japanese Exchange Program.

This opportunity was provided to Delilah through the FCCLA.  Delilah is a very active member of our local FCCLA Chapter and currently serves as our Chapter President, and served as Regional Reporter during the 2015 school year.  Delilah began working on the application for the program at the beginning of the school year and has had to complete several essays and interviews as she progressed through the process.  Delilah was selected as one of 14 students nationally to be awarded a full-ride scholarship for the program valued at $12,000.

Delilah will leave in early June to spend a three day orientation period in California to learn about Japanese culture and traditions to prepare her for her cultural experience.  She will spend approximately 6 weeks in Japan before returning from this once in a lifetime opportunity.

We at Winston are excited to be sending one of our best and brightest out into the world.  Congratulations to Delilah and her family, we know you will represent your school and community well.  Go make us proud and let the world know that, It is a Great Day to be a Redbird!
